To quote the old saying, a problem shared is a problem halved and women are particularly good at sharing and caring.
Whatever is bothering us, whether it is relationships or work issues’, talking through problems with others often takes the pressure out of the situation. Talking can certainly help you to sort through your feelings and put things into perspective.
Talking is unique to humans, distinguishing us from all other species and allowing us to develop skills, increase our social circle and grow as people.
It is often claimed that women are better communicators than men and there is certainly scientific research to prove that we are more in touch with our feelings and that, on the average, more of the female brain is devoted to language.
Louann Brizendine, a clinical professor of psychiatry at the University of California in San Francisco says that women talk nearly three times more than men and her research shows that women can use 20,000 words a day compared with 7,000 for the average man – and we talk twice as fast.
She also claims that women devote more brain cells to talking than men do and that talking triggers a flood of brain chemicals which give women a rush similar to that felt by heroin addicts when they get a high.
A fascinating subject, perhaps one I could talk about for hours!
